We drove through the night,
and arrived in Maine early morning.
When I left here last time, it was still the peak of foliage.
Now, all the leaves are gone.
I saw some apples hanging on naked apple trees.
Soon, they will be frozen solid.
Frozen apples are the favorite desert of Priscilla, my dog.
夜通し運転し、
朝早くにメイン州に着いた。
前回ここを出たときは、まだ紅葉がピークだったけど
戻ってみると、葉っぱはすべて散っていた。
丸裸になった林檎の木に実が残っていた。
もうすぐ、この実もガチガチに凍る。
凍った林檎の実は、愛犬プリシラの大好物。

We're driving up to Maine tonight.
11 hours of driving.
空を漂うピンクの雲。とてもきれい。
今夜、またメイン州に向かう。
11時間の運転の旅。
One of the most quaint spots in Manhattan
suddenly became world-famous 20 years ago.
In Woody Allen's 1979 masterpiece "Manhattan",
he and Diane Keaton sat on a bench at night
to admire the beauty of the bridge and New York City.
When I took this photo at dusk yesterday,
I was standing right on the spot where the unforgettable scene was shot.
Twenty years later, the view of Queensboro Bridge is absolutely awesome,
and it will remain so, for sure.
20年前、マンハッタンの中でもとりわけ閑静な一角が
突然、世界中に知れ渡ることになった。
ウッディ・アレンの1979年の名作『マンハッタン』で
彼とダイアン・キートンの二人が夜のベンチに腰かけて
この橋とニューヨークシティの美しさを愛でるシーンがあった。
昨日この写真を写したとき、
わたしはあの名シーンが撮影された、まさにそのスポットに立っていた。
20年経ったいまも、クイーンズボロ橋の眺めは、圧倒的な美しさ。
そしてこれから先も、きっと、そう。
Not too far from my apartment, there's a heliport.
When we're in Maine, my dogs go to quiet natural beach for walk every day.
When we're in Manhattan, I take them to the East River shore daily,
and my dogs need to walk right near helicopters landing with ear-splitting roar.
My dogs, both born in the country, used to be so scared at endless city noise at first,
but now they act as if they did not hear anything.
Just like us humans, it appears they selectively hear the noise.
自宅アパートの近所にヘリポートがある。
メイン州にいるときは、うちの犬達は毎日静かな自然の海岸に散歩にゆく。
マンハッタンにいるときは、毎日イーストリバー沿いに散歩に連れ出すので、
耳がつんざけそうな騒音を立てて着陸するヘリコプターのすぐ近くを歩かなくてはならない。
うちの犬達は田舎生まれなので、最初はシティの騒音をとても怖がっていたが、
いまでは、何も聞こえないかのように平気な顔で歩いている。
人間とおなじで、聞こえないと思えば犬の耳にも騒音は聞こえなくなるらしい。

ニューヨークシティで戦前に立てられた典型的な高層住宅ビル。

Series MVP Hideki Matsui had carried the Yanks to the moment.
Humble and professional, Matsui is now the biggest hero,
not only in Japan but also in the City and in the United States.
Empire State Building celebrated the victory and saluted for the team
by lighting up the building in the Yankees colours.

MVPとなった松井選手の活躍でこの瞬間を迎えた。
決して奢らずあくまでプロに徹してきた松井選手は、いまや
日本でだけではなく、NYシティの、そして米国全土の英雄となった。
エンパイア・ステート・ビルもヤンキーズの勝利を祝し、
ヤンキーズカラーにライトアップしチームに敬意を示した。

The ground is covered by dead leaves.
午後も遅い、セントラルパーク。
落ち葉が地面を覆う。
The temperature rose above 60F today,
and it felt like the early summer.
I opened all the windows to invite sunlight and fresh air.
My dogs were obviously enjoying a long nap
on fresh sheets in this cozy afternoon.
今日は気温が16℃以上にあがり
まるで初夏のような一日だった。
窓という窓をあけて陽の光と外の空気を呼び入れた。
犬達もさぞかし気持ちがよかったのか、
取り替えたばかりのシーツの上で午後の昼寝をむさぼっていた。
Autumn is at is peak in Central Park.
セントラルパーク、秋まっさかり。
New York City Marathon was held today.
More than 40,000 runners challenged the 26.2 miles.
The photo was taken near the 25th mile point
in Central Park this afternoon around 3pm.
Nearly 5 hours since the start had past,
but those brave runners were still running,
with only one mile left before the goal.
今日はニューヨークシティマラソンが開かれた。
4万人以上のランナーが26.2マイル（42.2キロ）に挑戦した。
写真はセントラルパークの25マイル地点付近で
今日の午後3時ごろ撮影した。
スタートから5時間近くが経過していたにもかかわらず、
果敢なランナー達は走り続けていた。
