Day after Thanksgiving is the start of the shopping season.
All the stores decorate heavily for Christmas, and
try to allure shoppers with special bargains.
This year, however, most of stores do not expect heavy turnover.

感謝祭の翌日は年末ショッピングの開始日。
店という店がクリスマスの飾りつけに精を出し、
特別バーゲンセールで客を引き寄せようとする。
だが、今年は、どの店も買い物客がどっと押し寄せてくるとは期待していない様子だ。

Our Manhattan apartment is located in the section called Murray Hill.
It's less than 10 minutes walk from this landmark building.
As a routine, my dogs and I pass this building almost everyday.

自宅からこの有名なビルまで徒歩で10分もかからないくらい。

Today is Thanksgiving Holiday,
when Americans traditionally gather around a roasted turkey,
sharing tons of foods and laughter among friends and family.
Some gather at home, others have the traditional dinner at restaurants.
On the window of a local diner,
there was a hand-written special menu for the Thanksgiving dinner.
今日は感謝祭の休日。
友人や家族が集まって、七面鳥の丸焼きを囲み、
山のような食べ物と笑いを分け合う、アメリカに古くから続くお祭り。
誰かの家に集う者もいれば、レストランに伝統的なディナーを食べに行く者もいる。
近所の安食堂のウィンドーにも、
感謝祭ディナーのスペシャルメニューが手書きで貼られていた。
Frankie, our puppy, has a very calm and friendly temperament,
so he's got many doggie friends in the neighborhood.
He waited and waited for his friends to show up in the park.
He was fully prepared with his favorite orange ball.
But no one came for play.
Sorry, Frankie, they may be gone for the holiday.
フランキーは穏やかでフレンドリーな性格をしてるので
近所に犬の友達がたくさんいる。
この日も公園で友達が来るのを待っていた。
お気に入りのオレンジ色のボールも用意して。
でも、誰も遊びに来ない。
ごめんね、フランキー、きっとお友達はみな、ホリデーで出かけてしまったのかも。
In the nearby park,
I found many ginkgo fruits fully ripen.
In Japan, people appreciate the seeds of the fruits,
and they cook them as part of seasonal delicacies.
But in the United States,
I hardly see people even notice hundreds of seeds on the ground.
近くの公園で
熟した銀杏（ぎんなん）の実が成ってるのをみた。
日本では、銀杏の実をありがたがり
季節の味覚として料理に使う。
でも、アメリカでは、
何百と銀杏の実が落ちていても人々は気づきもしない。

New York's Cloisters Museum is a beautiful old building.
Older than the United States.
The building used to be actually standing in a rural villate in France.
An American art dealer in the late 19th century bought the church
and brought it back piece by piece to rebuild it in New York.
Today, the building is used as a museum,
exhibiting hundreds of middle-age arts from Europe.
ニューヨークのクロイスター美術館は美しい古い建物。
アメリカ合衆国より古い。
この建物はかつてフランスの片田舎の村に実際に建っていた。
19世紀のあるアメリカ人の美術商がそれを買い取り
ニューヨークに石を一つ一つ運んできて建て直したのだ。
今日、ここは美術館となっていて
欧州からの中世美術が何百点と展示されている。

Literally, hundreds of birds,
flying around above our heads.

頭上を飛び回った。
My dogs rushed towards the resting birds.
Surprised, the birds all flew up in the wind.
休んでいる鳥の群れに向かって犬たちが走り出した。
驚いて、鳥達はいっせいに風の中に飛び立った。
